Both my kitchen and dining room were in desperate need of a good scrubbing. My stove top was caked in pure yuckiness, there was food on my ceiling (yes you, unfortunately, read that right), the walls were pretty gross, and the floors looked disgusting too. Before I began getting down to business, I went through everything that needed to be cleaned and wrote it all down in my Relaxed Cleaning Checklist.
When choosing what to put on my cleaning checklist I ask myself two things:
1) What really needs to be done
2) What am I realistically going to want to actually clean?
I don’t know about you but what needs to be clean and what I actually feel like cleaning is two totally different factors. Having clean baseboards and getting to all the molding in a room would be really nice but I don’t have the time/ motivation for all that quite frankly.
Here is a glimpse of my kitchen checklist.
Because the walls and ceiling were pretty gross in both the kitchen and dining room I did mop/ scrub the walls and ceiling. All I used was some Pinesol and water with a microfiber mop, nothing too fancy. If I needed to scrub some of the tougher spots, I used an all-purpose cleaner from Grove Collaborative (which is my new favorite cleaner by the way).
The best way I have found to clean my stove is hot water mixed with vinegar and a squirt of Dawn dish soap. Spray the stove with this mixture and let it sit for a few minutes and it basically just wipes away. Totally embarrassed by this but here is the before and after.
My fridge was funky! There was stuff that had spilled in the drawers and the bottom of the fridge was covered in Gatorade. It was pretty bad. I cleared everything out, threw away anything I barely used or that was old and cleaned everything with the same hot water, vinegar, dawn mixture. I then reorganized everything and now it’s super cleaned and decluttered.

Clean fridge:
I’m not going to lie, the fridge took quite a bit of time and elbow grease to clean, I was pretty pooped afterward. I am happy I got the fridge all nice and spotless but I am not cleaning my freezer after all that hard work from the fridge. This is a perfectly great example of what spring cleaning looks like for me.
On top of just things being dirty, I also needed to declutter, purge, and reorganize everything. The bakers rack in my dining room was probably the most junked up.

Favorite Cleaning Products for the Kitchen/ Dining Room
- Dawn dish soap (best thing for cleaning grease and grime)
- Vinegar
- Magic Erasers (favorite to use on cabinets, walls, and stainless steel)
- Grove Co. All Purpose Cleaner
- And the cheap old washcloths from Walmart (only 3.88!)
Things to get rid of/ minimize:
- Barely/never used small appliances (bread maker, toaster oven, microwave, blenders,
- Barely/ never used kitchen towels, tablecloths, napkins
- Seasonal decor that you don’t like or never use (mugs, serving plates, bowls, tablecloths, etc) you know that spring plate that you’ve had for years but never use
- Cleaning supplies you don’t really use.
- All the tupperware that is missing its lid or bottom
- Expired/ never used spices and food. Donate the food that is still good. Why keep that box of rice that has been sitting in your pantry for almost a year? If you have not eaten it by now, you probably won’t anytime soon.
