“What wonderful majesty! What stupendous condescension! O sublime humility! That the Lord of the whole universe, God and the Son of God, should humble Himself like this under the form of a little bread, for our salvation.
…In this world I cannot see the Most High Son of God with my own eyes, except for His Most Holy Body and Blood.”
– St. Francis of Assisi
Genevieve received her first Holy Communion this past weekend! She worked so hard in preparing for this special day and we are so proud of her. I cannot express the feeling of watching your child receive the Lord for the first time. It is an absolutely overwhelming joy to be able to partake in this blessed sacrament with your children.
“If angels could be jealous of men, they would be so for one reason: Holy Communion.”
– St. Maximilian Kolbe
We were blessed to be able to have her grandparents, all her cousins, and aunt and uncle (who are also her Godparents) to come and celebrate this special occasion. It was so nice to see her so happy all throughout the day. You can visually see she was filled with the Holy Spirit like a glow radiating from her.
We had her dress custom ordered from JJs House and it turned out perfect. It was exactly what we wanted. I am so impressed that we were able to find a dress for such an awesome price that was custom ordered. We plan on having all our daughters wear it for their first Holy Communion. Her veil was also just stunning. I really wanted a traditional mantilla veil that was long. We got so many compliments on it. We ordered the veil from Veils by Lily. To give it a Marian vibe, I added a floral crown that I got for super cheap on Amazon and it helped her veil to stay in place.
I made a wood pallet backdrop as the main decoration that I kept in my dining room on my sideboard. This is where I had her cake, some flowers, and a letter board. Other decorations we had were some pink and gold streamers, pink and white balloons, and a .99 cent plastic lace tablecloth. Although I wanted to decorate and make everything special, we also wanted to keep things a bit minimal. I decided to try something new and made a tiered layered naked cake with a simple rosary design… let’s just say it was a total beginner Pinterest nailed it type of cake. Genevieve loved it all, especially the cake.
Overall it was a very blessed day and a special milestone for Genevieve and our whole family. It only seems like not too long ago we just had her baptized and here she is receiving Jesus for the first time.

“All the good that is in me is due to Holy Communion. I owe everything to it. I feel this holy fire has transformed me completely.”
